
KUJ Elects New Leadership Unopposed: A Strong Message of Unity Among Journalists
In the 2025 KUJ Dastoor elections, all office bearers were elected unopposed following withdrawal of other nominations. The result reflects strong media unity.

KARACHI — In a strong show of unity, all office bearers of the Karachi Union of Journalists (KUJ-Dastoor) have been elected unopposed in the 2025 annual elections.
The election schedule was announced earlier this month by Election Committee Chairman Atta Muhammad Tabassum. The deadline to submit nomination papers was May 18, and May 24 was set as the final date for withdrawal. Following the withdrawal of all other nomination papers, the Election Committee declared the contest unopposed and announced the final list of elected members.
Nasrullah Chaudhry has been elected as President, while Rehan Khan Chishti takes over as General Secretary. Muhammad Fauraq Sami and Mansoor Ahmed were elected as Vice Presidents, with Abdul Rehman and Athar Farooqi as Joint Secretaries. Zain Ali was chosen as Treasurer, and Azfar Waqas Abbasi as Information Secretary.
The following nine individuals were elected unopposed to the Governing Body:
Abdul Qadir Mangreo, Anam Razaq, Arif Habib, Atta-ur-Rehman, Junaid Shah, Khatija Rathore, Shafqat Aziz Bhatti, Rehan Hyder, and Salahuddin Abbasi.
As it was an uncontested election, no polling was required. The newly elected team was formally announced by the Election Committee and warmly congratulated by colleagues and senior journalists.
Members of the journalist community expressed their hope that the incoming leadership would take effective steps to safeguard press freedom and resolve the pressing issues faced by media professionals today.
