IBA Karachi Marks 79th Independence Day with Patriotic and Cultural Celebrations

From tree planting to marathons, music to cultural walks — IBA Karachi’s Marka-e-Haq festivities celebrated patriotism and unity.

IBA Karachi celebrated Pakistan’s 79th Independence Day with a month of patriotic events, cultural pride, sports, music, and unity.

KARACHI: The Institute of Business Administration (IBA) Karachi lit up with the spirit of patriotism as it proudly celebrated Pakistan’s 79th Independence Day under the theme “Hum Zinda Qaum Hain – The Legacy of Bunyan-al-Marsoos and Marka-e-Haq”. The celebrations were part of the “Watan Se Wafa – IBA Karachi’s Tribute to Pakistan” campaign, launched earlier this month.

The month-long activities kicked off on August 4 and 5, when more than 50 members of the IBA community came together to record a special patriotic video featuring national songs, poetry, and heartfelt messages. Badge distribution across both campuses sparked a wave of unity, leading to a gathering of over 200 staff and faculty sharing reflections on love for Pakistan.

On August 6, IBA organized the “Azadi ka Sabz Paigham” Plantation Drive, planting 30 saplings of indigenous and fruit-bearing trees. Over 110 participants—from senior management to support staff—joined hands and voices in chants of “Pakistan Zindabad”, underscoring IBA’s commitment to sustainability and a greener Pakistan.

The celebrations continued with “Kahoot-e-Pakistan” on August 7, testing the knowledge of 120 participants on Pakistan’s history, landmarks, and achievements. On August 8, the campus echoed with patriotic melodies during “Sada-e-Watan”, a national songs competition featuring ten contestants and interactive audience voting.

The IBA Sports and Community Engagement team hosted a Mini Marathon on August 9, bringing together IBA students, alumni, and external participants for a 5 KM challenge and 1 KM fun run. Laughter, pride, and unity filled the air as runners showcased their love for the homeland.

On August 11, “Rang-e-Haq”, a canvas painting competition, saw 60 artists expressing their patriotism through art, judged by a distinguished panel of artists and academics. The following day, August 12, IBA celebrated “Saqafat-e-Pakistan”, a vibrant cultural day and freedom walk led by Executive Director IBA, Dr. S. Akbar Zaidi. The event showcased the rich heritage of Pakistan’s provinces through traditional dress, music, and cultural displays.

The week also included a screening of the film “Jinnah” on August 13, honoring the life and vision of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah. Friendly cricket, badminton, and table tennis matches kept the competitive spirit alive throughout the celebrations.

The grand finale on August 14 featured a formal flag-hoisting ceremony, patriotic speeches by Registrar Dr. Mohammad Asad Ilyas, Director HR Mr. Irfan Qamar, and Brigadier M. Umer Farooq (Regional Directorate Commander, ANF Sindh). The day concluded with a cake-cutting ceremony, fun activities, and a celebratory breakfast shared by faculty, staff, students, and alumni. Final matches of all sports events also took place, adding to the day’s excitement.

From tree planting to cultural walks, marathons to music, the “Marka-e-Haq” celebrations at IBA Karachi embodied patriotism, cultural pride, and unity, perfectly aligning with province-wide festivities announced by the Chief Minister of Sindh. The events not only honored Pakistan’s independence but also celebrated the nation’s rich cultural heritage, resilience, and hopes for a prosperous future.
