KUJ Dastoor Delegation Meets Karachi Police Chief to Strengthen Media-Police Relations

Additional IG Javed Alam Odho emphasizes women empowerment and joint efforts for a crime-free society

A KUJ Dastoor delegation met Karachi Police Chief Javed Alam Odho to discuss women empowerment, journalist issues, and climate change reporting.

KARACHI – A 12-member delegation of the Karachi Union of Journalists (KUJ) Dastoor, led by President Nasrullah Chaudhry and Secretary Rehan Khan Chishti, visited the Karachi Police Office (KPO) and held a meeting with Additional IG Karachi, Javed Alam Odho.

The delegation included KUJ Vice Presidents Mansoor Ahmed and Farooq Sami, along with members Azfar Waqas Abbasi, Arif Habib, Rehan Hyder, Atta-ur-Rehman, Shafqat Aziz Bhatti, Junaid Shah, Khadija Rathore, and Anam Razzak.

Women Empowerment: A Social and Economic Necessity

Welcoming the journalists, Additional IG Javed Alam Odho praised the presence of female members in the KUJ delegation. He said:

“Women make up more than 51% of our population. For a strong society and a thriving economy, it is essential that they come forward and play their crucial role.”

He urged journalists and media organizations to use the power of the press to promote women empowerment, stressing that their participation is vital for progress.

Police-Media Collaboration for a Safer Society

Speaking on the importance of collaboration, the Additional IG highlighted that strong cooperation between police and media is crucial in building a crime-free society. He also encouraged journalists to focus on climate-related stories and the rise in crimes linked with disasters and climate change.

During the meeting, KUJ Secretary Rehan Chishti presented a list of incidents faced by KUJ members, particularly concerns regarding the closure of routes around the Karachi Press Club.

Joint Committee and Future Seminars

The Additional IG Karachi ordered the formation of a joint committee of police and journalists to address these issues on priority. It was also agreed to organize seminars and awareness sessions in the future to strengthen cooperation between Karachi Police and KUJ.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the KUJ delegation assured full cooperation with Karachi Police, while the Additional IG thanked the journalists for their visit and constructive dialogue.
