KUJ (Dastoor) Announces Membership Drive from Feb 15, Interim Scrutiny List Displayed at Karachi Press Club

Karachi Union of Journalists (Dastoor) has announced its membership drive starting February 15, with the interim scrutiny list now displayed at Karachi Press Club. Journalists have been asked to verify their names and submit objections with documents before the deadline.

Karachi: The Karachi Union of Journalists (Dastoor) has officially announced the launch of its membership campaign starting from February 15, aiming to strengthen journalist representation and ensure transparency in union affairs. According to KUJ Dastoor President Nasrullah Chaudhry and Secretary Rehan Chishti, the interim scrutiny list of members has been displayed on the notice board of Karachi Press Club, while the verification process is still underway.

The KUJ leadership stated that the scrutiny process has become increasingly complex due to the rapidly changing conditions of Pakistan’s media industry, frequent staff transitions, and organizational restructuring within media houses. However, the preliminary list was prepared after detailed consultations with unit chiefs of all major media organizations to ensure credibility and accuracy.

President Nasrullah Chaudhry and Secretary Rehan Chishti clarified that journalists meeting the required eligibility criteria will be able to collect membership forms from their respective unit chiefs starting February 15. They urged all journalists to carefully review the interim list to confirm their inclusion.

According to the official statement, journalists whose names have been mistakenly omitted or incorrectly listed under another organization are advised to contact their unit chiefs or reach out directly to the KUJ Dastoor President and Secretary via WhatsApp with supporting documents before February 15, 2026.

In addition, objections to the interim list can also be submitted through WhatsApp along with verifiable evidence. The leadership emphasized that the entire membership and verification process is being conducted in a transparent, fair, and accountable manner.

KUJ Dastoor officials further stated that the membership campaign aims to strengthen the collective voice of working journalists, protect press freedom, safeguard professional rights, and enhance organizational discipline within the journalist community of Karachi.

Media circles consider this membership drive a significant development for Karachi’s journalist community, as it is expected to play a key role in future union elections, policy decisions, and institutional reforms, while promoting democratic practices within journalist organizations.
