KUJ Dastoor Stands with Iran, Launches Major Reforms for Journalists in Digital Age

In its second Governing Body meeting, KUJ Dastoor shows solidarity with Iran and takes key steps to support and empower working journalists.

KARACHI: Karachi Union of Journalists (Dastoor) strongly condemned the Israeli attack on Iran and expressed full solidarity with the Iranian people, government, and media community.

The condemnation came during the second meeting of KUJ (Dastoor)’s Governing Body, held under the leadership of President Nasrullah Chaudhry. The meeting focused on the protection, welfare, and upskilling of journalists in the digital era.

Israeli Attack Called a War Crime

KUJ (Dastoor) called the Israeli attack a clear violation of international law and the UN Charter, stating that it amounted to a war crime. The union demanded that the Government of Pakistan push for an emergency meeting of the United Nations Security Council and OIC to respond to the aggression.

President Nasrullah Chaudhry said that Iran has the right to self-defense under Article 51 of the UN Charter. He added that the journalist community in Karachi stands united with Iran in this critical time.

Important Decisions for Journalists

The meeting also focused on the challenges faced by journalists, especially in the fast-changing digital media landscape. KUJ (Dastoor) announced the appointment of Unit Chiefs in all major newsrooms, including newspapers, TV channels, and digital platforms, through mutual consultation.
